CHANGES TO SECOND SEMESTER MATHEMATICS
COURSES
To meet the needs of both
students and staff, Newport High School will be
adjusting its second semester mathematics
schedule.
These changes will primarily affect those
students in high school mathematics courses that
meet for the entire school year.
Courses that meet for a full year include
Algebra 1, Geometry, Integrated 1 Mathematics,
and Integrated 2 Mathematics.
In some cases, students will be receiving
a new instructor for the second half of the
year.
This new schedule has several advantages,
such as:

Balancing the number of students in mathematics
courses so teachers can address individual
needs,
·
Minimal impact on individual student schedules,
·
Collaboration among mathematics teachers to
provide consistency among courses,
·
Co-teaching opportunities with district
Mathematics Instructional Coach, and
·
Additional support in the
mathematics learning lab by mathematics teachers
for each instructional block of the school day.

At that time, we will be welcoming Ms.
Heather Downey to our mathematics department.
Her classes will be held in room C217.
From a student perspective,
these changes result in a new teacher and/or a
new room assignment for the course.
These changes do not affect the time at
which the classes are currently scheduled.
The administration and
mathematics department at Newport High School
consider these changes to be in the best
interest of students so they may obtain the
necessary mathematics background to pursue
employment and post secondary opportunities
beyond high school graduation.
